Georgia Power has awarded a contract to Power Intelligence LLC to implement an automated thermal monitoring system at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, building on a successful multi-year collaboration at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The Power Intelligence system will provide continuous monitoring and analysis of the stadium’s power delivery infrastructure, including transformers, switchgear, and cables. This initiative is especially significant as the stadium prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup Championships.
Eric Smith, Operations and Reliability Engineering Supervisor at Georgia Power, emphasized the critical importance of reliable power in large venues. He noted, “Reliable power at large sports venues is just as crucial as at major airports, where human safety and daily operations depend entirely on electricity for communication, lighting, cooling, and more. After the 2017 outage and the positive impact we’ve seen from the Power Intelligence system at the Atlanta airport, Georgia Power is now extending this patented infrared analytics system to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and other vital facilities within the Georgia Power service area.”
Robin Thompson, CEO of Power Intelligence, stated, “Our patented Sigma Delta Tau analytics, combined with the system’s scalable enterprise architecture, offer a unique solution tailored to the needs of safety and reliability stakeholders at Georgia Power and key facilities like Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Atlanta Airport.
We are honored to have collaborated closely with Georgia Power’s reliability team to develop this world-class solution that addresses the pressing issue of aging infrastructure impacting venues, airports, transit hubs, factories, and data centers across the country. Adding Mercedes-Benz Stadium to our portfolio of critical success stories is a testament to the system’s effectiveness and our shared commitment to infrastructure reliability.”
